Why John is running for Team Kidney Wales

Meet John Noonan, a spirited runner with a heart of gold, gearing up for the Cardiff 10K on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, alongside Team Kidney Wales. But there’s more to John’s story than just running; it’s a tale of rediscovery, resilience, and unwavering support for a cause close to his heart.

After two decades since his football days ended due to ACL injuries, John found solace in running. Aged 61, he ventured into his first parkrun in September 2019, marking the beginning of a transformative journey. With over 60 parkruns under his belt and numerous half-marathons conquered, running became more than just exercise for John—it became a lifeline for his mental well-being.

Motivated by a desire to make a difference, John wholeheartedly supports Kidney Wales’ mission which is why he has chosen to join Team Kidney Wales at this years event. With an awareness of the charity’s vital work, he’s determined to amplify their message and ensure help is readily available for those in need.

Over the past ten years, John has witnessed the devastating impact of kidney disease on some of his elderly relatives. Reflecting on their struggles, John emphasises the importance of hydration in kidney health, recognising the need for greater awareness and support particularly in the prevention aspects of kidney disease.

John will join around 250 inspirational runners challenging themselves in support of Kidney Wales at the Cardiff 10K this year, raising vital funds to help deliver life changing projects for The Welsh Kidney Community.
