Kidney Wales raises £20,000 at London Marathon thanks to places from Run 4 Wales

Kidney Wales fundraisers have raised an incredible £20,000 at the 2024 TCS London Marathon, helping to make a difference to the lives of kidney patients in Wales.

Ten spaces into the 2024 TCS London Marathon were secured for Kidney Wales by Run 4 Wales through its partnership with London Marathon Events.

They came as part of the tender process when the event organisers took over the running of the CDF 10K for the first time last year.

Money raised will help Kidney Wales offer essential guidance and support, fund critical research and provide financial assistance to help alleviate the burdens faced by those with kidney problems, so they can lead their best lives.

Speaking of the London Marathon spaces, Ross Evans, Managing Director at Kidney Wales, said: “Opportunities such as this one have made a massive difference to us as a smaller charity, and we have had such great feedback from those that ran London Marathon and represented Kidney Wales.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Run 4 Wales and the arrangements that have been made as part of the 10K partnership, and we’re really looking forward to coming together again at the CDF 10K later this year.”

Kidney Wales established the Cardiff 10K in 1985 and continues to be lead charity of the event since Run 4 Wales revived the historic event in 2023.

The event is now set to return to the heart of the Welsh Capital on Sunday 1 September where runners will get to take on a sightseeing tour of the city, with highlights including Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium, crossing the River Taff and running through the leafy Pontcanna suburb and the grade 2 listed parkland of Llandaff and Pontcanna Fields.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, said: “We’re so thrilled that through our partnership with London Marathon Events we’re able to help make a difference to smaller charities in Wales.

“Kidney Wales is such a vital charity to those living with chronic kidney disease in Wales and this incredible fundraising total will make a huge difference.”
