Get set to run the CDF 10K

The date has been announced for the CDF 10K 2024 and runners are being encouraged to pre-register now to secure their spot for the popular event.

Next year’s run through the Welsh capital will take place on Sunday 1 September. And, after it was added to Run 4 Wales’ portfolio of events for 2023, the event will be included in R4W 10K Series Multi-Buy Offer, for those wishing to take part in multiple events.

Kidney Wales is once again Lead Charity Partner of the event and fundraising spaces are also available for those who wish to run for the cause.

The charity, which does not receive any government funding and relies solely on generous donations, is dedicated to making a tangible difference to the lives of kidney patients in Wales every day. It offers essential guidance and support, funds critical research and provides financial assistance to help alleviate the burdens faced by those with kidney problems, so they can lead their best lives.

In 2023 163 runners joined Team Kidney Wales raising an incredible £30,000 and the charity is aiming for an even bigger team next year to help raise even more funds.

Through the incredible fundraising of their runners at the CDF 10K, Kidney Wales can help ease some of the financial burden, which is experienced by those in the Kidney Community.  For every £10,000 raised, £100 wellbeing food vouchers can be given to 100 kidney patients and £15,000 will help to provide emergency financial support for around 50 patients, helping with things like rent, utility bills and household repairs.

Ross Evans, Managing Director at Kidney Wales, said: “After a successful return in 2023, we are excited to be working with Run 4 Wales again for the CDF 10K 2024. This event has enabled us to support thousands of kidney patients through their lifelong kidney journey and acts as a platform to raise awareness about kidney disease and kidney health”.

“Kidney disease is for life, and there is no cure. While there are multiple treatment options, these can limit a person’s ability to work due to them feeling unwell, combined with gruelling treatment schedules and regular hospital appointments. In fact, the employment rate for people on dialysis is just 26%, and this together with the cost-of-living crisis means there is considerable strain on the budgets of families living with kidney disease.

“That’s why we would love for as many runners as possible to join Team Kidney Wales at the 2024 CDF 10K to help us make a real difference to the lives of kidney patients.”

Matt Newman, Chief Executive of event organiser Run 4 Wales, added: “We were thrilled to bring the CDF 10K into our event mix for 2023 and are excited to continue to grow the run and inspire more people in the city to get active.

“This is fantastic event taking in all our favourite sites around the capital including Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium before treating runners to a bit of nature with the River Taff and the parkland of Llandaff, Pontcanna Fields and Sophia Gardens.

“The race is also perfectly timed for those training for the Cardiff Half Marathon, which takes place a month later.”

Runners will be able to save up to £29 on the cost of race entry with the R4W 10K Series Multi-Buy Offer. Participants entering all four events in the 10K series will save 25%, those who wish to enter three events will save 20% and entering two events will provide a saving of 15%. The time limited offer is available until 12 January 2024, so runners are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.

Runners who would like to run as part of Team Kidney Wales will also get training support, access to race day activities as well as a range of other benefits.
