2025 Elite Race Preview

Omar Ahmed will look to seal a second consecutive R4W 10K Series victory on Sunday. Olivia Tsim is the fastest athlete in a women’s race that includes the 2024 English Cross Country Champion Niamh Brown.

The event takes place on a lightning quick course in the Welsh capital, starting and finishing in the Civic Centre, passing the famed Principality Stadium and taking in the City Centre and surrounding parkland.

Omar Ahmed (28:27) was the runner-up at the season opener in Newport but since then has been a convincing winner in the Barry Island 10K and the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K. He was also the winner here 12 months ago, setting his P.B. in the process.

Dan Nash (29:23) is next fastest on paper and became the seventh fastest Welshman over the Marathon distance last December with a time of 2:13.02. He was also notably fourth here last year.

Phil Wylie (29:30), and Mike Ward (29:31) have both been great supporters of Run 4 Wales races in the past and will line up looking for a solid clocking on the flat and fast course.

Dylan Nazareth (29:33) and Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K winner Jon Butler (29:52) have also both run under the 30 minute barrier in the past so should not be discounted.

Olivia Tsim (33:48) is amongst the favourites in the women’s race and was the Welsh 10km Champion in 2022 and more recently an impressive runner-up at the popular Adidas Manchester Marathon. Last weekend the Pontypridd Roadent clocked 16:29 for 5km at the Sportsshoes Home Nations 5K.

Cassie Thorp (33:57) was the winner of the Worthing 10K earlier this year with 2024 Adidas Manchester Marathon victor Charlie Arnell (34:13) next fastest.

Alaw Evans (34:23) was the winner here in 2023 and is joined by Kate Drew (34:43) who was the runner-up behind Thorp in Worthing. English Cross Country Champion Niamh Brown (34:55) will make the trip to Cardiff and can certainly be considered a wildcard for the race win.

Georgia Palmer (35:20), Megan Williams (35:42), Donna Morris (35:44) and Alison Mcewing (35:56) will also all be in action on Sunday.

Wheelchair racer Owain Terrell will be looking to revise his 30:12 lifetime best in Cardiff.
