Woman takes on 10K challenge for Kidney Wales

At 22 years old, Holly Jones is at the beginning of her running journey, and she’s chosen to make her very first big challenge count by running for #TeamKidneyWales.

Wanting to improve her fitness and work towards a personal goal, Holly signed up for the Kidney Wales CDF 10K as a way to push herself and stay motivated.

“I wanted to start my running journey and hold myself accountable, so I thought the perfect way would be to sign up for a race and donate to charity at the same time.”

Although Holly doesn’t have a personal connection to kidney disease, learning more about the condition and the kidney community has opened her eyes to the challenges many people face every day.

“I’ve gained knowledge surrounding the disease and how it affects people.”

For Holly, supporting Kidney Wales is about helping people feel less alone. She believes charities like Kidney Wales play an important role in creating support networks and communities for people affected by serious health conditions.

“It is important for everyone to feel a sense of belonging with whatever they’re doing, especially when it comes to health as it can be a very isolating experience finding out that you’re unwell. Having a community to talk to people who understand is invaluable.”

Kidney Wales supports individuals and families across Wales affected by kidney disease, providing vital information, emotional support, opportunities to connect with others and funding projects that improve lives. By joining #TeamKidneyWales, supporters like Holly help ensure that no one faces kidney disease alone.

As Holly continues building a healthier and fitter lifestyle, she is looking forward to race day, the atmosphere and the challenge of pushing herself.

Her story is a reminder that you don’t need a personal connection to kidney disease to make a difference. Sometimes, simply wanting to help others is reason enough to take that first step.

Whether you’re an experienced runner or just starting out like Holly, joining #TeamKidneyWales means every mile you run helps support people and families living with kidney disease across Wales.
