Final Reminder: Select your option following the postponement of the 2020 race

Race organisers Kidney Wales are saddened to announce that The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Family Run scheduled for Sunday 6 Sept 2020 has been postponed to September 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Thank you to you all for your understanding, the kindness and support we have received as a charity during these unprecedented times has been incredible.

You may be aware that this year we would have been celebrating 35 years since Kidney Wales founded The Cardiff 10K with just a few hundred runners. Today it is one of Wales’ longest standing and most popular road races, with thousands of runners taking part, and tens of thousands of spectators lining the streets of our fabulous capital city.

The Cardiff 10K is Kidney Wales’ flagship fundraising event, and over the years the money raised has helped us to provide support for Welsh kidney patients, who number over 20,000 across the country, and also their families in numerous important ways. It helped us to campaign for the change in law on organ donation, to refurbish the Children’s Kidney Unit and Children’s haemodialysis ward, it has helped fund additional support for health and social care, including social workers and psychologists, and the purchase of equipment for dialysis and transplant units.

For those who have yet to select their option, We would now like to remind you of your options as a registered runner for The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run. Please note if you have already chosen your option, and notified us of this there is no further action that you need to take. If you have contacted us to defer your entry, we will be in touch in due course.

Donate your entry fee to Race Organisers Kidney Wales
We are continuing to support our Kidney Community as well as supporting our NHS through the Covid-19 outbreak, providing urgent information, direct financial assistance, and well-being support to people with chronic kidney disease and their families, many of whom have been shielding due to being extremely vulnerable to the effects of Coronavirus. We have provided complimentary face coverings free of charge for vulnerable patients to be worn to appointments, and as they begin to ‘un-shield’.
We need your help to continue this important work. The COVID-19 crisis has affected the charities fundraising activities significantly with events such as The 10K, and this is jeopardising the future support the charity will be able to offer.

Please consider donating your entry fee to race organisers Kidney Wales enabling our support to continue to those patients and our NHS staff in need during this crisis. If you would like to donate your entry fee, there is no further action that you need to take.

Run the race in 2021
We can defer your place to our 2021 race on Sunday 5 September. There would normally be a fee for deferring your place, but this has been waived under the circumstances. If you’d like to defer to next year, let us know by emailing cardiff10k@kidneywales.cymru. The deadline for deferrals is Sunday 6 September 2020 at 5pm.

Transfer
You can transfer your entry to another runner. The usual fee for this has been waived due to the circumstances. If you would like to transfer your place to a friend for the 2021 race you will need to email us on cardiff10k@kidneywales.cymru by Sunday 6 September with the name and email address of the runner taking your place. Please note you will not receive a refund of your entry fee if you choose this option.

Sadly, we are not able to offer refunds as costs have already been incurred in association with the planned 2020 event. Our terms and conditions state that runners will not be entitled to a refund if an event is cancelled because of a circumstance beyond the reasonable control of the organisers, and it is with regret that this condition must be upheld in order to secure the future of Kidney Wales and our most loved Cardiff 10K event. If you have booked an iTab medal insert this will be transferred to the 2021 event, if you select the deferral option.

If you have not selected to defer or transfer your entry by 5PM Sunday 6 September, your entry fee will automatically be donated to race organisers Kidney Wales.

Please note if you have already chosen your option, and notified us of this there is no further action required. If you have contacted us to defer your entry, we will be in touch in due course.

Thank you to you all for your understanding, the kindness and support we have received as a charity during these unprecedented times has been incredible. We look forward to hosting a fantastic 2021 race for you!
